Selected Students Announced for Second Annual Community Innovation Scholars Program

CIS students at the Family Service nonprofitThe UTSA School of Data Science has announced the 20 students selected for the second annual Data Science & AI Community Innovation Scholars (CIS) program. Representing the Alvarez College of Business (ACOB), College of Sciences (COS), and the College for Health, Community and Policy (HCAP), these students will gain hands-on experience applying data science techniques to support local nonprofits.

The selected students are:

Now in its second year, the CIS program has grown from 12 to 20 participants. Led by the School of Data Science, it is funded by H-E-B and offered in partnership with United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County. The program provides students with a 10-week internship and a $4,000 stipend to help nonprofits enhance services, streamline operations, and leverage data for greater community impact.new-united-way-logo.png

New this year, students will dedicate more time at their internship sites and complete a Signature Experience course before the program begins. This training will equip them with the essential skills to maximize their contributions.

Orientation for the 2025 CIS program begins May 23, with the internship running from May 27 – August 6. For more details, visit the Community Innovation Scholars website.
