School of Data Science Founding Director
David Mongeau is Founding Director, School of Data Science and Professor of Practice, University College at The University of Texas at San Antonio.
The School brings together graduate degree programs, undergraduate programs, multiple experiential learning programs, and 16 research centers/labs focused on data science, data analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI). David is leading the school to the forefront of data science research, education, and value creation for government, industry, and community partners.
David previously led the UC Berkeley Institute for Data Science and co-led the data analytics institute at The Ohio State University. With these universities, he established industry partnerships totaling $64M. While at Ohio State, David was also a principal architect of a new company (now part of GoSecure), which was established with $42M from seven corporations to meet their advanced analytics and cybersecurity needs. He has contributed to multiple DoD, NIH, and NSF research programs.
Before entering higher education, David worked in communications, data, and networking research at Bell Labs. He finished while launching a global consulting practice for digital transformation and began by working on the first C++ compiler. He holds a BS from Carnegie Mellon University, MS from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and MBA from Krannert School of Management at Purdue University.
