The Data Science & AI Community Innovation Scholars program is dedicated to assisting nonprofit organizations in leveraging their data and making informed decisions to drive positive change through hands-on projects undertaken by teams of undergraduate students. The 10-week program is designed to provide data science, analytics, and AI capacity to nonprofits interested in increasing their organizational efficiency, operational capabilities, and community impact.

This program is a crucial part of the School of Data Science’s mission to advance data-driven solutions in a digital economy. By participating, students gain an understanding of how data can be leveraged to create sustainable social impact and develop the skills necessary to make meaningful contributions to society.

A nonprofit organization is a good fit for the program if able to:

  • Formulate a data-related problem to solve or question to be answered through research and data analysis/science skills;
  • Procure and share sufficient data to allow for the problem to be solved or the question to be answered; and
  • Support student(s) with adequate resources throughout the project duration including technology, staff guidance and support, and physical space.

Selected projects will provide student participants with hands-on experience, helping them hone their skills and gain expertise in consulting and collaborating with a community service lens.
